Til We Meet Again…

It is with bittersweet emotions that I write this blog post. You see, this is the final post closing a 3 year endeavor that I hold very close to my heart. The Gif Squad formed a few short years ago via Twitter, but it evolved into so much more than just a group of like-minded Salesforce #AwesomeAdmins tweeting funny things to each other. Through banding together, we formed a family within a family, and a group of people who could rely on each other as human beings, not just people who happened to be in the same industry.

Through daily constant contact of a running 24/7 DM, to texts, get togethers and virtual happy hours, we share our high points and pick each other up as we share our low points. You see, this group is more than giving back to the Salesforce Ohana, we give to each other.

Careers changes, kids, life and priorities all change; these are facts of life. It is with this in mind that we are disbanding the GifSquad in it’s current form as we can’t dedicate as much time to the effort as we would like.

I want to take the time to thank each and every member of this Ohana who have supported not only our social media antics, but our fundraising efforts. It’s because of your generosity that The GifSquad was able to donate more than $800 to the will.i.am Angel foundation. Through our #WeekOf posts, we shined the spotlight on deserving community members and made new friends.

You will still see us around, and I hope that you tweet me your response to this post in GIF form.

As we put out our flame, my wish is that our story ignites yours and we will be there to cheer and support you in kind.

Some parting words from other Squad members:

“Our goal with all of our efforts was to show what a collective group of Gif loving lunatics could do with their reach. We sold some great shirts while chuckling madly to ourselves while designing them, donated the money to great causes, and shined a light on others in the community who may normally not try to step into the spotlight. The goal of a great leader is to help others up and step back while the students become the teachers, so while we enjoyed the ride as the Gifsquad, our job is done and want others to take over and continue to spread great things in this ecosystem and beyond. Thank you everyone for your participation, love, affection, and great GIfs.”
                                                                                                                                                      ~Bill Powell
“Our motivation has always been to lift others and shine a light on those doing good in our community. Now its time to pass torch. We will always continue to lift others but now, we step back and admire your shine.”
                                                                                                                                                      ~ Melinda Smith
“I attended my first ever Community led conference in Chicago. It was entitled Midwest Dreamin’ and it would be the place that I’d come to meet so many great folks that would eventually come to be known as the Gifsquad. What was just a twitter DM group that I created to keep in contact with these folks turned into a website, twitter handle and a project for good initative. We’ve had great interactions and inspirations with fellow members of the community. A podcast Campfire Stories came about from two members of the Gif Squad. Life long friends and a strong support system came of the Gifsquad. As I type out my comments while on the phone with Bill Powell. It’s testament that the Gifsquad has served its purpose in inspring, uplifting and encouraging Good through Gifs. :)”

Einstein bots are fascinating me these days, but the ability to customize Salesforce to match how each different company runs is truly the highlight.

Salesforce Trailblazer Community Group Leader?

Nope, but I help out with the Denver Admin/User Group fairly regularly.

Favorite Salesforce Feature

Probably the navigation customizations in Lightning that were added this year that allow users to move around tabs and pin things that are most useful to them. Followed closely by List Views.

Salesforce’s Biggest Opportunity for Improvement

Continuing to improve on usability for less tech-savvy users. Specifically things like List Views and Reports that most users equate to Excel functionality, but of course there are virtually no restrictions in Excel, it’s like a blank canvas 🙂

Fun Facts about me:

  1. After attending my first tech conference ever last year (#TDX17), I was fortunate to be a PRESENTER this year at Dreamforce!
  2. For the past year I’ve been coordinating Salesforce Saturday events in Denver to provide a forum for current and aspiring Salesforce professionals to network and collaborate. It’s been tremendously rewarding and I’m very thankful for Steph Herrera who started the idea in Austin, TX!
  3. I’m a life-long Green Bay Packers fan and generally love the strategy, teamwork, and sportsmanship of American Football. #GOPACKGO
  4. My wife and I love to travel (provided we can find someone to watch our 3 rescue pups). In the past few years I’ve been able to visit Iceland, Malaysia, Croatia, France, Spain, Mexico, and Aruba. We’re looking forward to visiting Costa Rica in 2019!
  5. I’ve recently gotten back into Disc Golf after not playing at all for about 10 years. Its a tremendous community and a great way to get outdoors and be active! Also, science! 🙂

Most Identifies With This Salesforce Mascot:

#TeamCloudy because who doesn’t love goats?! Also, I’m a Capricorn and I love to support the underdogs (undergoats?). Astro and Codey already have enough fans 😉

This is minor, but it would be helpful to have more targeted options for email deliverability settings. The only options are All, System, and No Emails, but when testing features with email alerts, it would be great to be able to turn emails on and off on a per object basis.

Fun Facts about me:

  1. Total karaoke addict!
  2. I climbed 311 steps to the top of a London monument.
  3. I rotate between almost 20 pairs of glasses.
  4. I have 2 tattoos that were hand-poked in Iceland.
  5. I haven’t eaten red meat in 24 years.

Fun Facts about me:

  1. Has the dream job of Customer Success Manager although not working for Salesforce (her company used the job title and description from the Salesforce CSM role!). Headhunted earlier in 2018, specifically because of being so active within the Salesforce Ohana.
  2. Has presented / spoken at Salesforce events in 3 countries!
  3. Planning next year’s trips around Sydney World Tour, Yeur Dreaming, and DF19!
  4. Established a regular Trailhead Tuesday event because, you know, organising and hosting monthly user group meetings, just don’t take up enough time!
  5. When not immersed in the world of Salesforce one way or another (on Trailhead, organising Trailhead Tuesdays and user group meetings, doing some paid Salesforce work, etc etc), she gives up the rest of her time to help in organising the sport of underwater hockey at her son’s secondary school!

Salesforce Community Group Leader?

I am currently the leader of the Morristown, NJ Pardot User Group. We were getting ready to host our first ever meeting when Salesforce announced some exciting new changes to community groups. Once the details are ironed out, we’ll be off to the races. That might mean a marketing automation focused community group, or possibly joining a local admin group as a leader and incorporating Pardot specific content.

Favorite Salesforce Feature

I love analytics in Salesforce. There’s nothing like being able to take the data from the fields you worked hard to configure and summarize it to give your company valuable insights which yield actionable decisions to move the business forward!

Salesforce’s Biggest Opportunity for Improvement

I’d really like to see Pardot test environments available in Trailhead so users can get hands-on in their marketing automation learning journey – even if they’re not a Pardot customer. We all have to be #keepingupwiththepardashians, as @ifeellikemacmac would say! That hashtag cracks me up!

Fun Facts about me:

  1. I’m a mom to two AWESOME, smart, kind, and brave boys – John John, 9 and Brody, 5. Being a mom to my boys is filled with sports, adventures, sticky hands, endless laughs, and FUN!
  2. Metallica is my favorite band – and they played at Dreamforce this year! *raises the roof*
  3. I love autumn – crisp weather, leaves changing color, and FOOTBALL! I’m a huge Philadelphia Eagles fan. The best part about being a Jersey girl, though, is that we get to experience all the seasons.
  4. I’m a former sales rep turned Salesforce admin/analyst. I fell in love with Salesforce as an end user, and it has really brought a unique empathy to my roles in sales operations. The skills you learn in sales can be applied to any role. I think everyone should work in sales at some point in their career.
  5. You’re very likely to see me wearing my favorite white sunglasses. I call them my Wendy Peffercorn glasses. Who doesn’t love the movie ‘The Sandlot’? It’s a classic.

Most Identifies With This Salesforce Mascot:

I LOVE Appy because girl power! Also, I’m a huge proponent of working smarter, not harder. When in doubt, AppExchange!

Salesforce’s Biggest Opportunity for Improvement

Getting more things out of classic and fully up and running in lightning. Knowledge is a prime example of a feature that would be incredible if so much of it didn’t get left in classic.

Fun Facts about me:

  1. I went back to college at 36 to try and earn my degree! I hope to graduate in 2020 or 2021
  2. My favorite book is John Steinbeck’s East of Eden, my favorite movie is O Brother Where Art Thou and my favorite band is the Old 97’s
  3. The writings and spoken word of Henry Rollins best known for being in the band Black Flag have been a huge influence on my life.
  4. My music tastes range from alt/texas/outlaw country to punk to trip-hop/downbeat.
  5. I just started my Salesforce career at 37 and it is my 3rd career path since I was 17. I spent almost 10 years in the Navy where I was a Persian linguist then 10 years in IT support.

Salesforce’s Biggest Opportunity for Improvement

I’m with SteveMo on this one. (https://success.salesforce.com/ideaView?id=0873A0000003aQvQAI) I wish Salesforce would cross some of the low-hanging fruit off their to-do list. I’m excited to see what’s behind Brett Taylor’s initiative lately in acknowledging the Idea Exchange is broken.

Fun Facts about me:

  1. I’m not an Accidental Admin. Everything happens for a reason. I’m a didn’t-know-where-I-was-going-but-hey-look-this-is-clicky Admin. Part of my senior art thesis in college was about how I was comfortable as a Semi-Luddite and a bit of a technophobe. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
  2. My partner and I run our home on Agile principles including a Kanban-style to-do board in the kitchen.
  3. My love for puppets is unparalleled. We named our son Henson…
  4. I’ve been homebrewing for about 10 years. I started out in an apartment, which is no small feat and I hope it gives me street cred. See the “Ales” in @ales_force.
  5. I used to be a trained caller for frog varieties of the NorthEastern Illinois region. No, I can no longer demonstrate.

Most Identifies With This Salesforce Mascot:
